Panzer IV ausf. G by buster126 Panzer IV ausf. G by buster126
A repainted Panzer IV ausf. G. Just like my previous post of the standard panzer IV, this version includes skirt armor and a high velocity cannon. The extra armor was mostly added because of the terror of the Russian anti tank rifles. I added a little air identification flag on it's back just cause I thought it looked cool, probably not accurate with the particular battle period or tank model but MEH.

I found out how to make easy flags by simply using tissue paper and coloring in a flag on it, then cutting it out and placing it on the tank and spraying it down with hairspray. It naturally folds to the shape it's placed over while it's soaked in the spray giving it a more natural look. It then dries and is then solid in that shape.

Looks really nice. The idea with the tissue paper flag is cool too.

Really nice. As a previous modeler, my only input would be to recommend spraying everything with a few layers of a clear matte finish, overall though impressive, the schuerzen looks outstanding!

Ooh, great idea! It is a bit too shiny. I'll try that soon. I didn't know what I could use to stop that.

I wouldn't call any pre-G model of the PzKpfw IV "standard":

Grand total production for A-F2: ~1300
Production for PzKpfw IVG: ~1000

The H and J had even higher production numbers.

AT-rifles weren't the reason for the uparmouring of the IV. Not only were they not very effective, (even the 20mm Russian ones), but the IV never got better against them after the E, (immune from the front, slight vulnerability to the sides/rear). In fact, the G did not see any significant increase in armour in its design, (although most would have extra armour added in the field to give it similar frontal protection to the H).

The reason for the Schuerzen was protection against HEAT and HESH rounds, (neither being commonly used by the Russians).
